I noticed that some of my recently uploaded images have been deleted. I want to clarify that **all of these images are my original creations**. I uploaded them under a **free license CC BY-SA 4.0**, and they are intended for use on **my personal wiki** as well as other compatible projects.
Please note that these images **do not infringe any copyright or license**.
If needed, I can provide more details or proof of authorship.
Zelenko claimed that here [2] and is lying as Christian and Barbara Joy had no children. I am Anne O'Brien, Christian's Niece, who took that photo, which was different from the one deleted, so I should know. Why are you lying to delete photos of my Aunt and Uncle and persecute our family? SpooksBGone (talk) 12:21, 11 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I noticed the subject file I uploaded has been flagged for an incorrect license. I am relatively new at this, and would appreciate any assistance that can be offered. I have read the licensing help pages.
The image is an ancestor of mine (Helms), and the image is in the possession of my family. Helms died in 1918, in England. So, assuming he is the "creator" of the image, it looks like the image should have a public domain license.
However, a copy of the image was published in a book in England "The Borneo Story" in 1956. The image was provided to the author by Helms' family at the time. The image I've used was not copied from the book; it came from the original in our possession. At the time I uploaded, I assumed any existing copyright from the book would not apply to my image since it didn't come from the book. But now I'm not so sure...
Any advice would be appreciated. This seems to be a complicated situation (for me, at least) that crosses international boundaries (I am in US) and can remove the image if that is the safest approach.

Hello.
I am a Wikisource editor. I ported this file because it was an image taken by a South Korean national organization in charge of researching, collecting, compiling, promoting the study of historical materials on Korean history, called the National Institute of Korean History. The image was of a picture on an ancient historical text called the Veritable Records of the Joseon Dynasty. I don't know much about Copyright, but please tell me the appropriate Copyright of such content.
Features:
This file's picture was a portion of a larger picture taken by a South Korean national organization, in South Korea, of a page of a book so old it is undoubtedly in the public domain. What should the Copyright of such image be? Blahhmosh (talk) 03:37, 26 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
You are receiving this message because we noticed that you voted in Round 1 of the 2022 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in the second round. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
In this second and final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2022.
@Krd: : Sorry, I don't know history of particular user, but files look like reproductions of historical art taken from books. Is there strong reason for not restoring them? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:24, 17 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
All claims made by A3cb1 are completely unreliable, and in many cases the situation was not as it looked like. If you can verify yourself by external sources, beyond being only plausible, that the images are PD, you are welcome to restore them. Krd15:40, 23 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

I cannot understand why this file must be deleted. This picture is the screenshot of a video made by Sakura Miko upload on YouTube. It is licensed CC BY. See here. The subject of the picture is Usada Pekora who is belongs to Hololive. And Sakura Miko is also belongs to Hololive. Despite they are belongs to same company, Why this picture is copyright violation? 赤座 (talk) 15:31, 3 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I agree it is good way. Asking company to get copyright permission is certainly good way. I think so too. But, in this case, they already say "It can be use by CCBY" on YouTube channel. Despite they already gave permission to us, why I have to send email to them to get permission to use their works? When I upload the files, I certainly attached Template:YouTube CC-BY and links for their videos that licensed CC BY. And I have discussed already such a problem in Commons:Deletion requests/File:Natsuiro Matsuri.png. But you suddenly deleted the pictures and neglect such a things. I know my English skill is very poor, but I cannot help expressing dissent to your opinion.--赤座 (talk) 15:55, 4 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
If we follow your logic, we cannot use all works uploaded on YouTube or Flickr because the creator may not understand about Creative Commons licenses. And in this case, the creator of the video is belongs to the same company of the subject of the picture. Despite they are belongs to same company and they create the video due to their job, why do you think that they does not accept to use their works each other? In addition, I have an evidence to use the work that has been freely licensed for reuse because they indicate so on their YouTube page. I never reuse works without permission. By the way, User:Abzeronow restored File:Sakuramiko2.png because he estimated "Creation of the YouTube channel, which is freely licensed.". It is the part of pictures that you deleted few days ago.--赤座 (talk) 02:38, 5 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
It's reasonable to do not accept blindly everything what is written on Internet. Same applies to media under Creative Commons licenses uploaded on Commons or other sites. In this particular case it's necessary to find out was particular employee authorized by company to release something or not. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:07, 5 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
The photo you say is copyrighted is from a chat of mine with an artist, no one else in the world has it, only me on my phone, so it does not infringe copyright

You told me that any doubt I should speak to you, well my doubt is because you give me a copyright notice for an image that is from an instagram chat of mine with another person?????? what does that have copyright? I asked an author of a drawing if I could upload it as a photo in the vegeta article on wikipedia and he said yes and you say that this image violates copyright, when only I in the whole world has that chat image in his iphone?????? what's up friend? Why do you do that so unfairly, you invent that I stole my image from another side and that I infringed copyright laws when the image is from a chat of mine with another person asking for authorization for the aforementioned related to a Wikipedia article, instead of giving me this useful link https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Volunteer_Response_Team which is to ask for permission, you invent me to copy the photo that is on my cell phone and that no one else has because it is my instagram chat , with that link that I sent you, you have to ask for permission and not by chat, instead of telling me that you threaten to ban me, you could remove that unfair threat and help people with the link that I gave you since that is useful not to walk threatening people for false things like that they infringed copyright by putting a photo of a chat with an artist asking for authorization to upload a drawing of him for an article on wikipedia GokuJuan (talk) 22:33, 28 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
https://imageshack.com/i/poGHdFWwp This is the image, I had to upload it there so you can see it again, I don't know why you say it has copyright? Where did you see her????? And the other images that I uploaded did not have copyrights either, only that in the Spanish Wikipedia they explained to me that a special permission is needed to put them and in the English Wikipedia they did not, that is why they deleted them, in no case did they have copyright GokuJuan (talk) 22:44, 28 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

I already read it and it does not say that if you take a screenshot with your phone in a chat with another person, your image is magically a screenshot of another screenshot that does not exist on the internet, you invented that
In summary: you cannot trace someone else's copyrighted creative drawing and upload that tracing to Commons under a new, free license because a tracing is a copy without new creative content
That text is the one that appears in commons, in the link that you sent me and if you look for the photo of the chat it does not exist on the internet, therefore it is something 100% original to me, I am the author, stop making excuses for why you deleted me the photo unfairly without any justification, just because it occurred to you to say that it was a copy and now without it existing anywhere other than on my phone GokuJuan (talk) 01:28, 31 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Obviously the anime image appears in the capture, but both in the name of the capture and in the description of the image, it writes that the image was a test which is a chat with the author of the drawing to be able to upload the image to wikipedia, in summary that image was the proof with the permission of the suto to be able to upload the drawing of him as a photo of oerdil of an article, but since you don't know Spanish you could not realize that, neither the content of the chat nor the end of the image which was to obtain permission from a library to upload the drawing to wikipedia (maybe even with what I explained to you just because the small image appeared in the capture, that is still a reason for copyright so I understand you if it is So) GokuJuan (talk) 02:21, 1 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi there,
You have left a message on my personal talks page about the file i have uploaded onto commons. This file is a derivative work indeed, made by me. The original painting on the plane is in dutch public domain tho. Works created by a person for a company (in this case the Dutch East Indies Airforce, that dissovled in 1950 btw) are becoming public domain 70 years after it's creation. You can read this in this (on the official dutch website about copyrights) pdf document https://www.auteursrechten.nl/files/auteursrechten/2019-08/Vuistregels%20voor%20het%20vinden%20van%20gebruiksvoorwaarden.pdf under "WANNEER IS HET WERK PUBLIEK DOMEIN?" (when is a work public domain). Here it states that there are 3 ways for a work to become public domain (by Dutch laws). There it states that it becomes public domain, 70 years after passing from the author OR 70 years after publication/creation. The rhino was painted in 1940... so this is 83 years ago. Therefor it is in public domain.

This is a photo from my personal collection. Since he's my grandfather. The photo was made by a close friend from my grandfather (told to me by my grandfather himself) so he could give the photo to his, by then, girlfriend. Who became my grandmother. In Dutch law the same rules apply for photo's, 70 years after the creator had passed. However i do not know who made it (by name) and if that person still is alive or has died long ago... proberbly passed since it's a photo from just after the war, but i can't say if it's 70 years or more... so i have no proof for this photo, therefor you can delete it. The other photo from my grandfather, on the same wiki, is in public domain tho. It's from the Dutch Armed Forces, and more than 70 years old... also it is publicly available on the website of the Dutch Armed Forces.

-- Maksim L. (talk) 16:43, 20 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
--EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:32, 22 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

I had permission from the artist himself. I have proof in personal conversation. Contact editors before you delete a file! People have put hard work into their efforts and you can jut come along and put copyright violations on peoples photographs. Look at your talk page you do this regularly. I will be reporting you for vandalism. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MNeivandt (talk • contribs) 02:11, 30 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

--EugeneZelenko (talk) 16:20, 14 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi there! I have worked a bit on this draft about a software, and I notice that you nominated a file of its logo for deletion here due to lack of notability. The draft now has multiple secondary sources covering it in detail, like articles from the Miami Herald and La Nación. I plan to request undeletion if and when the draft is accepted. I have one question; was the logo just text (like this) or not (like this)? This is just to know whether the file would be eligible for {{PD-textlogo}}. I am trying to figure out how to get a photo of Professor Christopher Marquis added to his Wikipedia page. I had emailed Professor Marquis and asked him to upload a photo of himself on https://commons.wikimedia.org/ that he would release under the commons license as free to use. He did this and notified me of the photo location on commons.wikimedia.org. I then used the photo in updating his Wikipedia page. This was then removed in short order by you. What would be the proper procedure in order to be able to use a photo that is owned with full rights by Professor Marquis? Is there some release statement that is needed by the rights holder to attest ownership of the photo? SwikityWikity (talk) 21:59, 12 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I've seen that you deleted two files that I uploaded: File:Mario Fireball.png and File:Dragon Quest IV Logo.png. Beforehand I have to say that I have no problem with this, especially the last image, but I'm not so sure about the Fireball one. That one was because it looked similar to a specific artwork? In that case, will I have the same problem if a draw a completely random fireball that has nothing to do with any game artwork?

Concerning the other one (File:Ddoe 02 2024d.jpg), are you sure about the permission? Did the license really come from the photographer? The user kept insisting that she bought the copyright, which is not possible by German law (the Urheberrecht is non-transferable). Only the photo studio would be in a position to issue the appropriate license. --2003:C0:8F26:B900:9DD2:C6D4:9052:5C7323:19, 12 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi, you tagged this and other files uploaded by Glysiak for missing permission. Glysiak removed your tags stating "I made those pictures" on their talk and "this is from public domain" in their edit summary. However, I checked one (File:Professor Kazimierz Tomala.jpg), which indicates a different author and also that page has a copyright statement at the bottom. Perhaps you can have another look at those files. Thanks. Randykitty (talk) 16:59, 12 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Quick1984 (talk) 12:23, 16 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

I would not say such statements too categorically because such display could be easily dismounted. It'll make much more sense to find out information about award and related document.
--EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:59, 23 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Why did you delete File:Flag of RSHECC.png with no notice in my discussion page and no reason? the file had proper tags and flags have no copyrights. Banderas (talk) 10:28, 29 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
You are deleting a huge number of flags and burgees that are not logos (flags are not logos) and have not copyrights. Maybe with the Liga Nacional de Saltos logo.png file you are right, because that's a logo, but with all the college sailiing burgees and sport flags, you are wrong. You could delete all national, regional and military flags or coats of arms for the same reason, but you'd be making the same mistake. You should reconsider the flag/burgee deletions. EugeneZelenko, that is what I wanted to ask you, there is no mention of 'non-trivial' in Commons:Licensing. Could you give some details on why the logos where non-notable. Or they have to be used in Wiki articles? --Gpkp (talk) 14:47, 2 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Central part consists of text, circles, star and heart. Exterior is repetition of same shape. But you still think that it's complex enough to be copyrighted - you could nominate this image for deletion. EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:45, 4 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
This is a deletion request for the community to discuss whether the nominated contents should be kept or deleted. Please voice your opinion in the linked request above. Thank you very much!
If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.
Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

This file is most certainly 'Public Domain'. The basic plan was extracted from McGibbon & Ross's 'Castellated architecture' book, published in the late C19, hence decades out of copyright. Illustrations from this work are used all over Wikimedia/Wikipedia. I added the annotations, but gave the final image what I thought was a full free licence. If you think the licence is wrong, perhaps you would be good enough to change it, as I find the 'Commons' licensing system confusing and illogical. Thanks . The 'image within the image' is of Ranelagh Gardens, London, from an Eighteenth Century coloured print. Hence is is two Centuries out of copyright, hence does not I think need an extra attribution? Thanks ArchaicW (talk) 11:52, 8 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Obviously, book cover is not your own work. However, main part of it is public domain drawing (other are plain texts), so relevant tag should be used. EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:13, 8 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

2022 Picture of the Year: Great Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo), Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) and Gadwall (Mareca strepera) in Nepal.
Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2023 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2023) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Hi, you have noticed me this message about the copyvio. I've got one question. Some photos that users uploaded are photos contained metadata, which resulted in free image, so I cropped some. However, due to the deletion of these photos which resulted as a copyvio, how can I avoid these so that I don't get unfairly accused? Mickey Đại Phát (talk) 14:51, 14 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Will be good ides to try to reverse search images before cropping and/or verify license in provided source, so you could help to fix problem in its roots. EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:56, 14 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

No, it a little bit different. Deleted file has text in cycle at the left, when new file has smile there. Logo itself seems on border of trivial/non-trivial for me, so will be good idea to m=nominate it for deletion. EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:30, 29 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello EugeneZelenko, I believe you added a "File tagging" in my User talk in 10/28/2024 missing the source of the image file File:Jontex embalagens.jpg. I was warned in the email. I haven't edited on Wikipedia for many years. I don't remember, maybe I searched on Google images and added these image here to help the wikipedia community. I did not know about copyright in the past because I was very young. To avoid future copyright problems, please also remove all other images that I uploaded in the past (maybe also found on Google Images): Upload log Thank you very much. I wish you a great week. Hello! I was wondering what was the reason for deletion of 2 files depicting Summer McIntosh. Yes, these are AP photos, but when you follow the link to the source, it shows that they are published under the license CC BY 4.0 which is explicitly allowed at Commons. So I must have missed something else there, and obviously would like to know what exactly, so I don't make the same mistake in the future. Deinocheirus (talk) 18:43, 15 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
So does it mean that Google is not to be trusted on this matter? It seems like I was able to identify the actual author of the photo: here they are named as Matthias Schrader. Do you think it would be useful to try and contact them directly and ask if they are aware that their work appears as CC-licensed on Google? Deinocheirus (talk) 17:11, 16 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
It's hard to tell how Google make such claims. Software could be implemented incorrectly and every professional and amateur programmer knows this :-) I also check both files and both do not contain EXIF where Creative Commons license claim could be theoretically made. EugeneZelenko (talk) 16:02, 17 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
I think will be better if these deletion requests will be handled by person who knows Japanese language as well as history of Japan, so public domain/copyrighted status will be determined more reliably. EugeneZelenko (talk) 16:10, 19 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
If photo is in public domain, proper license tag(s) must be used. It's always good idea to look critically at file on not so reliable source like Flickr before import. In this particular case: Creative Commons licenses are 21th century artifact; is Flickr uploader really copyrights holder? flickrreview bot just blindly confirm bogus license, but what else could you expect from not too complicated program? Dear Admin EugeneZelenko,
Please kindly approve my edit here on Russian wikipedia where I added a superior and higher resolution image of the coffin of the Ancient Egyptian king Kamose, predecessor of Ahmose who founded the 18th dynasty of Egypt--from which Tutankhamun was a member of. The Previous image from 2008 was terrible and low resolution....and did not show the rest of the coffin. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 22:52, 18 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

I see that several of the images uploaded by this user were deleted on Jan 6, 2025. Why? I personally corresponded with that photographer on LinkedIn about contributing their images from the ATX TV Festival, and they agreed to freely license them, after which I gave them instructions on how they could directly upload them to Wikimedia Commons. And they did. What about the images did not pass a license review? Y2kcrazyjoker4 (talk) 19:10, 9 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello Eugene,
I do not feel confident that the uploads in Special:ListFiles/Іванна_Маргітич are truly "own works" (I wouldn't pass images like these if encountered in the LR queue). No EXIF, not even from cropping tools, really small files, technical quality all over the place... I saw that you tagged at least one with "No permission". What do you think about this case? Would a COM:PRP-deletion be sensible? Regards, Grand-Duc (talk) 18:21, 12 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

You made a big mistake by throwing out my own work by Marcin Moniuszko. It has no confirmation from permissions-commons@wikimedia.org but some wikimedia admin wrote to me that if I am a Wikipedia editor and I post my own work, I do not have to send them a permission request.
I confirm that the photo File:Marcin Moniuszko.jpg is my own work, taken with my DMC-GX80 Panasonic mirrorless camera, which I have been using to take most of the photos for Wikipedia since 2017. This photo was taken in January during the conference of the 50th anniversary of the Intensive Care Unit of the University Clinical Hospital in Białystok.
I took a dozen or so photos for the article I published on this topic. It is on pages 20-22 and on page 3 in the footer there is a signature: Photographs: Ryszard Kijak (...):

Give me your email address and I will send you more photos of Marcin Moniuszko from this conference that I took.

3 w stopce red. widnieje podpis: Fotografie: Ryszard Kijak (…):

Hi. I was about to make a template for photos from President.gov.by as I assumed the permission statement in the footer was acceptable for Commons, but I noticed you deleted a previous license under that name for "Ambiguous term of use on source site". If this is so, does that mean the following images from the website (not uploaded by me) should be deleted? They were falsely given the PD-Syria license.
Thanks for checking. The local file is being claimed as "own work" but there's nothing (e.g., EXIF data) to support said claim. Do you know whether File:Dr Mary Ashinyo.jpg was also claimed as "own work" or was it sourced to some third-party? -- Marchjuly (talk) 20:18, 18 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello Eugene, could you assist or help me? I'm watching Ssemmanda will currently flooding Commons with contents of the memory card of their DSLR, where they apparently shot in rapid fire lots of images of the same motifs. I feel that this is, in that amount, going against the scope (COM:SPAM), I wrote several DR already: Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Ssemmanda will. What do you think? -- M.L.Bot (talk) 10:29, 19 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
EugeneZelenko (talk) 16:50, 19 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello! You recently deleted File:Rally Madison.svg, and I was wondering why moving it to the English Wikipedia with a non-free use licence was not an option? Also, is there a way I can retrieve the file? I spent a good hour or so tracing that logo and I'm bitterly disappointed that you gave me no such opportunity to at least retrieve a copy of the file for upload to Wikipedia before deleting it. — AFC Vixen (talk) 09:49, 15 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

The Commons doesn't have the ability to move files to Wikipedia. However, if a file like File:Rally Madison.svg is removed from the Commons, you can immediately upload it to Wikipedia under a non-free license like you normally do without any issues.
I unfortunately did not get to see File:Rally Madison.svg before it was deleted, so I don't know on what grounds it was deleted, but EugeneZelenko seems to be suggesting there was a licensing issue.
If you're uploading simple geometric vector crests, during the upload select "This work was created by someone else and is free to share", and then select "This work is not protected by copyright law". In the area that says "Add a specific public domain tag, if applicable", add PD-textlogo and trademark. You need to put two { and two } on each side of PD-textlogo and trademark. That goes for simple geometric logos such as File:Logo of St. Louis City SC.svg.
If you were trying to upload [11] this image, the design of that logo is too complex to fall under a PD-textlogo license. That is because the logo contains work which an artist would have had to draw freehand.
Basically, if a logo could be drawn with a ruler or a with a Spirograph, it can fall under a PD-textlogo license and be uploaded to the Commons. If the image requires an artist drawing freehand, upload it as a non-free image on Wikipedia as you normally would.
I hope this helps and if you've anymore questions, I'll be here. Just to be clear though, I didn't "insist" you had to upload to the Commons, I said that it'd be a helpful thing to do for certain logos. If you don't want to upload logos to the Commons, you don't have to and that's fine. However, images uploaded as non-free files that are in fact eligible for the Commons are open to being replaced ("Deleted") by Commons versions. CeltBrowne (talk) 09:17, 16 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Red Winged Duck (talk) 08:37, 3 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello to Russia, Zelenko.
Can you explain to me why you DELETE photos you know nothing about? I uploaded a photo that I own the copyright to, and you deleted it completely without knowing the context. Why? EMdotKom (talk) 09:43, 7 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Correct. But are they actually an advert? I.e., can they be restored on uploader request, or shall I tell him than they will not be restored? Krd16:52, 15 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Graziella80 (talk) 11:23, 19 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I don't know Italian. Some projects, like English Wikipedia, allow fair-use content and such media could be uploaded locally there. Wikimedia Commons does not. Please read Commons:Licensing carefully. EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:37, 19 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think formal request should be filed, but it should clearly state that code is same as for already approved task. Procedure seems to be fast track. Name should reflect bot's purpose, something like DeletionRequestArchivist (or something better :-), so account and bot's code could be transferred to somebody else if needed. EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:30, 20 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
I did not receive any notification, and there was no discussion before the deletion. It gives the impression that it is your personal decision whether files are removed or not. Could you please explain how this process works?
About the logos: yes, they are not very simple shapes, but basically they are just simple silhouettes of normal people. What exactly about them is protected by copyright? Also, these are aid organizations. They would probably be happy to get more visibility and are unlikely to take legal action. --Mrmw (talk) 21:00, 2 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
You keep your replies to other users very short when their files were deleted, and you only refer them to the license page.
You do not answer my questions about the deletion process or why there was no discussion and not even a notification.
I am giving you the chance to address this before I raise the issue officially elsewhere.
The question of whether the files are acceptable for Commons or have licensing problems is a separate matter. --Mrmw (talk) 04:54, 3 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
You was warned about one variant of logo by Deletion Notification Bot 2 (talk·contribs). 3 or 4 files were direct variations of this design, other were monochrome, but nevertheless non-trivial logos. If you want, I can add warnings for each file on your talk page. Does duplication of messages really help you to understand problem with this particular set of files? EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:03, 3 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
You are right, there was a warning. I missed it — my mistake.
And yes, you are also right that multiple warnings for multiple files do not really bring an advantage.
However, the warning still feels pointless to me if the deletion happens just a few hours later without any discussion.
For the three NPH Germany logos, I would not start a discussion. But for the many other NPH logos, I would.
I assume you were triggered because all these logos were listed in a single Wikidata entry. But this cannot really be avoided if there are no separate articles for the national organizations yet.
We clearly have different opinions on whether the other NPH logos are a copyright problem on Commons. That is exactly why it would make sense to include more opinions.
It feels strange to me that one person on Commons can quickly delete many files on their own. That does not seem to be in the spirit of Wikimedia and collaborative work.
I have seen many cases where files were nominated for deletion because of possible copyright issues. There was a discussion, the uploader could respond, and several experienced users gave their opinions.
If the files are then deleted, it is still annoying, but at least understandable — and it is not a single-person decision.
One of files in set was tagged as copyrights violation by different person, so it was definitely not single-pperson decision. It didn't matter if logos were used in single or multiple places. What is matter is obvious complexity of their designs. This is why I referred you to Commons:Licensing in my first answer. EugeneZelenko (talk) 17:13, 3 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the note. The nominator is a temporary account with only a few contributions.
When I say that I would like to hear different opinions before a deletion, I do not mean a temporary account with almost no credibility.
Even though I am not accusing you, in theory these contributions could also have been made by yourself.
To make one thing clear: the work around licensing on Commons is important, and I am glad that people take care of it.
However, there are two points that bothered me and that you were not able to clarify:
There was basically no time (only a few hours) between nomination and deletion to respond. So there was no real discussion; it feels like a single-person decision.
The logos were deleted as a group. The NPH Germany logos are very different from the much simpler other NPH logos. A distinction, which I think would be appropriate, was not made.
I will not escalate this further and will leave it at that. But I hope you will pay more attention to this in the future. --Mrmw (talk) 22:52, 4 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

2024 Picture of the Year:Mundari man polishing the horns of one of his Watusi cows using a mixture of cow urine and ash as a ritualistic and protective practice in a temporary cattle camp in Terekeka, South Sudan.
Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2025 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year is the twentieth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favourite images featured on Commons during the last year (2025) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
The top 30 overall and the top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just five images to become the Picture of the Year.

--(Maksim_L.)M.L.Bot (talk) 18:54, 14 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:13, 15 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
-- M.L.Bot (talk) 16:52, 15 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:31, 16 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
-- M.L.Bot (talk) 17:36, 16 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

In this second and final round, you may vote for a maximum of five images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2025.
This year the U4C requires candidates to hold administrator rights on at least one wiki, which is why you are being contacted as you appear to hold this right. There are other requirements, such as candidates must be at least 18 years old and may not be employed by the Wikimedia Foundation or other related chapters and affiliates. You can find more information in the call for candidates on Meta-wiki. Additionally, the committee's working language is English; some ability to communicate in English is required.
The election opens on 18 May, if you are eligible and interested you have until 10 May to submit your candidacy. There will week between for candidates to answer questions from the community. Voting takes place privately in SecurePoll, successful candidates must receive at least 60% support. More information is available on the 2026 Elections page, including timelines and other candidacy information. If you read over the material and consider yourself qualified, please consider submitting your name to run for the committee. If you think someone else in your community might be interested and qualified, please encourage them to run.

Hi everyone,
Wikimedia Commons is pleased to finally announce the winners of this year's Picture of the Year 2025 contest! We had some truly incredible finalists to choose from, but the community has spoken.
Here are your top three winning images:
First place: The aftermath of an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City on October 9, 2023, leaving widespread destruction in the Rimal area. Attribution: WAFA (Q2915969) / CC-BY-SA 3.0
Second place: Baby cape fur seal (Arctocephalus pusillus) sleeping at Cape cross, Namibia. Attribution: Giles Laurent / CC-BY-SA 4.0
Third place: A gigantic jet photographed from the International Space Station by astronaut Nichole Ayers. Attribution: public domain
You can view the full results and see where all your favorite images placed here: Full 2025 Results
I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.
Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!

I noticed that your talk page was vandalized in September 2024 by a user with 5 edits total, all on the same day. One of those edits was initially placed on a third (uninvolved) user's talk page, see here. Part of it was then inserted at the very top of your user talk page! I took the liberty of removing the defacement. EugeneZelenko, you are NOT “not good”. You are good! Also, you are courteous and patient, as I saw by your polite response to the vandal, requesting clarification.--FeralOink (talk) 15:02, 5 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Thank you for your attention to my article on Salcedo FC. I am currently working on requesting permission from the club. Question: They're a spanish-speaking club. If I send them a form for them to complete in spanish would I need to specify that the article in question is written in english, and that the photos were uploaded to the english wikimedia/ English Wikipedia? Or will a permission grant form written in spanish allow their works to be published in Wikimedia as a whole?
Thanks JFC1094 (talk) 01:51, 7 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
I don't think that language of permission matters as long as there are volunteers with knowledge of language in question who could verify it. EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:27, 7 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
I did not add this user to administrator lists because native tongue is not clear based on information on user page, so taask is left to user. EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:21, 17 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:11, 10 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
— ArtSmir (talk) 16:01, 10 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi EugeneZelenko, I wanted to ask what I'm meant to do here, since I'm not that familiar with Commons policies. A user is reverting my bot's edit on a user page that isn't theirs. This isn't my first interaction with them, since they've also reverted my bot's edit on their user page, and threatened to report me/my bot to COM:AN/V. When I asked them about the revert on the other user page, they said "you should accept reverts like [diff] and don't edit user pages". I don't think they have a valid reason to revert as they're not the user page's owner and I was readding the bot's edit without the bad changes as it broke a table, I asked them about it and they gave that answer, so in the interests of not edit warring, what should be done here? Tenshi Hinanawi (talk) 22:54, 26 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think will be reasonable to stop bot edits until conflict resolved and raise issue on Commons:Administrators' noticeboard. At least user should provide rationale why linting could not be performed on user pages. If page appearance is not changes at the end, I think linted version should stay. Not every user bother to write 100% correct HTML/MediaWiki code. EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:06, 27 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
